• 1942 Declaration by United Nations signed Allied nations pledge joint war against the Axis Representatives of 26 nations signed the Declaration by United Nations in Washington, D.C., committing themselves to the principles of the Atlantic Charter. Each signatory pledged its full resources to the war and promised not to make a separate peace with the Axis powers. The term "United Nations" later became the name of the postwar international organisation.
• 1942 – 1945 Wartime Factory Work At 13, was sent to work in a military factory sewing parachutes for the Japanese army during World War II. She later said she spent her adolescence 'in closed darkness', hearing air-raid sirens and watching American B-29 bombers fly overhead. The experience instilled a lifelong commitment to personal and creative freedom.
