1938Trial of the Twenty-OneThe third Moscow show trialNikolai Bukharin, Alexei Rykov, Genrikh Yagoda and eighteen other defendants were tried on invented charges of treason and conspiracy. Almost all were sentenced to death and shot. It was the last of the great Moscow show trials.
1938AnschlussNazi Germany annexes AustriaGerman troops crossed into Austria on 12 March and the country was declared part of the German Reich the next day. Hitler entered Vienna to cheering crowds, and Austrian Jews immediately faced public humiliation and persecution.
