1937Roosevelt's court-packing planFDR proposes enlarging the Supreme CourtPresident Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress for power to appoint an extra Supreme Court justice for each sitting justice over seventy. The plan met strong resistance and the Senate sent it back to committee on 22 July. The Court had already begun upholding New Deal laws.
