1936Jarrow MarchUnemployed shipyard workers march to LondonAbout 200 men from Jarrow in north-east England marched nearly 300 miles to London to protest against mass unemployment after the town's shipyard closed. They delivered a petition to Parliament. The march became a lasting symbol of the Depression in Britain.
1936 – 1991Michael Landon (1936-1991)Died 1 July 1991, aged 54Actor and producer Michael Landon died of pancreatic cancer less than three months after his diagnosis was announced. He starred in the television series Bonanza and Little House on the Prairie, and created and starred in Highway to Heaven. His death prompted widespread public tributes across American television.
