1866 – 1936Charles Nicolle (1866-1936)Died 28 February 1936, aged 69Charles Nicolle was a French bacteriologist who directed the Pasteur Institute in Tunis. He won the 1928 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for showing that body lice transmit typhus. The discovery led to effective control of the disease.
