He developed the correlation coefficient and the chi-squared test, and founded the journal Biometrika. He was also a prominent advocate of eugenics.

1936Arab general strike in PalestineSix-month strike opens the Arab revoltArab leaders in Mandatory Palestine called a general strike against Jewish immigration and British rule, and the newly formed Arab Higher Committee took charge of it. The strike was accompanied by armed attacks and lasted until the committee called it off in October. It was the first phase of the Arab revolt, which continued until 1939.

He publicly documented his struggle with Alzheimer's disease in his final years. He died of complications from the disease.

He enjoyed a career revival in 1988 as a member of the Traveling Wilburys and with his album Mystery Girl. He died of a heart attack shortly before the album's release.
