1935 Nylon first synthesised Wallace Carothers produces nylon 6,6 at DuPont DuPont chemist Wallace Carothers and his team first produced nylon 6,6, the first fully synthetic fibre to become a commercial success. It went on sale in toothbrushes and stockings a few years later.
