• 1904 – 1934 Pretty Boy Floyd (1904-1934) Died 22 October 1934, aged 30 American bank robber who was named Public Enemy Number One after Dillinger's death. FBI agents and local police shot him dead near East Liverpool, Ohio.
• 1934 Fermi discovers the effect of slow neutrons Slowed neutrons greatly increase nuclear reactions Enrico Fermi's team in Rome found that neutrons slowed by paraffin were far more effective at inducing radioactivity. The discovery was essential to later nuclear reactors and won Fermi the 1938 Nobel Prize in Physics.
