• 1934 Discovery of artificial radioactivity Irène Joliot-Curie and Frédéric Joliot create radioactive isotopes Irène Joliot-Curie and Frédéric Joliot announced that bombarding light elements such as aluminium with alpha particles produced new radioactive isotopes. The discovery earned them the 1935 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
• 1934 Nepal–Bihar earthquake Magnitude 8 quake devastates northern India and Nepal A powerful earthquake struck the border region of Nepal and the Indian province of Bihar. Around 10,000 people were killed, and towns including Munger and Kathmandu suffered severe destruction.
