1934Hitler becomes FührerOffices of president and chancellor mergedOn the death of President Hindenburg, Hitler combined the presidency with the chancellorship and took the title Führer und Reichskanzler. The armed forces swore a personal oath to him, and a referendum on 19 August approved the change with about 90 percent of the vote.
