1933Japan leaves the League of NationsJapanese delegation walks out over the Manchuria reportAfter the League adopted the Lytton Report condemning Japan's seizure of Manchuria on 24 February, the Japanese delegation walked out of the assembly. Japan formally gave notice of withdrawal on 27 March.
1933Polyethylene discoveredICI chemists create the first polyethylene by accidentOn 27 March, Reginald Gibson and Eric Fawcett at Imperial Chemical Industries produced a waxy solid while reacting ethylene under high pressure. Polyethylene became the world's most widely used plastic.
