1868 – 1933Stefan George (1868-1933)Died 4 December 1933, aged 65German Symbolist poet who led an influential circle of writers and scholars. He left Germany after refusing honours from the Nazi regime and died in Switzerland.
1875 – 1933Anatoly Lunacharsky (1875-1933)Died 26 December 1933, aged 58First Soviet People's Commissar for Education, responsible for culture and schooling from 1917 to 1929. He died in France on his way to take up the post of ambassador to Spain.
