1932 – 2011Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011)Died 23 March 2011, aged 79The British-American actress, a two-time Academy Award winner known for films including "Cleopatra" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?", died in Los Angeles of congestive heart failure. She was one of the last major stars of Hollywood's golden age. She was also known for her AIDS activism and jewelry collection.
1932James Chadwick discovers the neutronUncharged particle identified in the atomic nucleusAt the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge, James Chadwick showed that radiation from beryllium consisted of neutral particles with about the mass of a proton. His report appeared in Nature on 27 February. The discovery earned him the 1935 Nobel Prize in Physics and was essential to later work on nuclear fission.
