1892 – 1930Mabel Normand (1892-1930)Died 23 February 1930, aged 37American silent film comedian, screenwriter and director who worked with Mack Sennett and Charlie Chaplin. She was one of the most popular stars of early Hollywood comedy. She died of tuberculosis.
1907 – 1930Horst Wessel (1907-1930)Died 23 February 1930, aged 22Nazi Sturmabteilung (SA) leader in Berlin who was shot by communists and died of his wounds. Joseph Goebbels turned him into a martyr for the Nazi movement. A song Wessel wrote became the party anthem.
1930Communist Party of Vietnam foundedHo Chi Minh unites rival communist groupsAt a meeting in Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh merged rival Vietnamese communist groups into a single party. Later that year it was renamed the Indochinese Communist Party. It went on to lead the struggle against French colonial rule.

She published more than sixty novels and sold tens of millions of copies worldwide. Rendell sat in the House of Lords as a Labour peer from 1997.
