1930Pauli proposes the neutrinoA new particle is suggested to save energy conservation in beta decayIn a letter to physicists meeting in Tübingen, Wolfgang Pauli proposed that a light, neutral particle is emitted in beta decay. This would explain the apparent missing energy. Enrico Fermi later named the particle the neutrino, and it was detected in 1956.
1930 – 2014Maximilian Schell (1930-2014)Died 1 February 2014, aged 83Maximilian Schell, the Austrian-Swiss actor who won an Academy Award for "Judgment at Nuremberg," died in Innsbruck, Austria. He worked extensively in both European and Hollywood cinema. He was also nominated for an Oscar for his direction of a documentary about Marlene Dietrich.

About 400,000 depositors lost access to their savings. At the time it was the largest bank failure in American history, and it set off a wider banking panic in the Great Depression.

The Atkins diet became a worldwide phenomenon in the early 2000s. He died from a head injury after falling on ice.
