1929Kingdom renamed YugoslaviaThe Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes takes a new nameKing Alexander I renamed his state the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and replaced the historic provinces with nine new administrative regions called banovinas. The change was meant to suppress ethnic and regional identities in favour of a single Yugoslav nation.
