1929Museum of Modern Art opens in New YorkMoMA's first exhibition opens in ManhattanThe Museum of Modern Art opened in rented rooms in the Heckscher Building on Fifth Avenue with an exhibition of Cézanne, Gauguin, Seurat and Van Gogh. It was founded by Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, Lillie P. Bliss and Mary Quinn Sullivan, and became one of the most influential modern art museums in the world.
