1929Graf Zeppelin flies around the worldFirst round-the-world flight by an airshipThe German airship LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin, commanded by Hugo Eckener, flew around the globe from Lakehurst, New Jersey, stopping at Friedrichshafen, Tokyo and Los Angeles. The voyage was sponsored in part by the Hearst newspapers and took 21 days.
19291929 Palestine riotsViolence over the Western Wall spreads across Mandate PalestineA dispute over access to the Western Wall in Jerusalem led to a week of rioting across Mandatory Palestine. About 133 Jews and 116 Arabs were killed, including 67 Jews in the Hebron massacre. The violence ended the ancient Jewish community of Hebron.
