1876 – 1928Hideyo Noguchi (1876-1928)Died 21 May 1928, aged 51Japanese bacteriologist at the Rockefeller Institute. He identified the syphilis bacterium in the brains of patients with progressive paralysis. He died of yellow fever in Accra while researching the disease.
