• 1928 Japanese general election First election under universal male suffrage Japan held its first general election after the 1925 law extending the vote to all men aged 25 and over. The Rikken Seiyukai won the most seats by a narrow margin. Several proletarian party candidates entered the Diet, which led to a mass arrest of communists weeks later.
