• 1927 Pan American Airways founded Future flagship US international airline is incorporated Pan American Airways was founded to carry airmail between Key West and Havana. Under Juan Trippe it grew into the leading US international airline. Pan Am later pioneered transpacific and transatlantic passenger services.
• 1927 Shōwa financial crisis Bank runs sweep Japan Finance Minister Kataoka Naoharu wrongly announced in the Diet that the Tokyo Watanabe Bank had failed. The statement set off bank runs across Japan. Dozens of banks collapsed, the Wakatsuki cabinet fell, and the government declared a three-week moratorium on payments.
