1925Amundsen-Ellsworth polar flight expeditionTwo flying boats attempt to reach the North Pole by airRoald Amundsen and Lincoln Ellsworth led an expedition with two Dornier flying boats from Svalbard toward the North Pole, aiming to be first to reach it by air. One aircraft was damaged landing on the ice, and the crews spent weeks repairing the other before flying back to safety. The expedition fell short of the pole but demonstrated the feasibility of polar aviation ahead of Amundsen's airship flight the following year.
