• 1924 First aerial circumnavigation of the globe completed US Army Air Service Douglas World Cruisers finish round-the-world flight Four US Army biplanes set out from Seattle on 6 April 1924 to attempt the first flight around the world; two completed the journey, landing back in Seattle on 28 September 1924. The flight demonstrated the growing feasibility of long-distance aviation.
