1923Irish Civil War endsAnti-Treaty forces order a ceasefireAnti-Treaty IRA leader Frank Aiken ordered his forces to dump arms and cease fire, ending the civil war that followed Irish independence over the Anglo-Irish Treaty. The conflict had killed more people than the preceding war of independence and left lasting divisions in Irish politics. The pro-Treaty Irish Free State government retained control.
