1923Transjordan recognized as autonomous under British mandateEmir Abdullah's territory is separated from PalestineBritain formally recognized the Emirate of Transjordan, under Emir Abdullah bin al-Hussein, as an autonomous state within the British Mandate for Palestine. The arrangement separated the territory east of the Jordan River from the Jewish national home provisions applying west of the river. Transjordan later became the independent Kingdom of Jordan in 1946.
