1923 – 1991Robert Maxwell (1923-1991)Died 5 November 1991, aged 68British media proprietor Robert Maxwell, owner of the Mirror Group newspapers, was found dead in the sea off his yacht near the Canary Islands. His death was followed by revelations that he had fraudulently plundered his companies' pension funds. The scandal became one of the largest corporate fraud cases in British history.
