1845 – 1923Wilhelm Rontgen (1845-1923)Died 10 February 1923, aged 77Wilhelm Rontgen was a German physicist who discovered X-rays in 1895, a finding that transformed medical diagnosis and earned him the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901. He donated his prize money to his university and refused to patent his discovery, believing it should benefit humanity freely. He died in Munich at age 77.
