1922Chanak CrisisBritain and Turkey come to the brink of war over the StraitsIn September 1922 Turkish nationalist forces advancing toward the neutral zone at Chanak (Canakkale) brought Britain and Turkey close to renewed war. British public and dominion reluctance to fight forced the government to seek a negotiated settlement. The crisis was resolved by the Armistice of Mudanya on 11 October 1922 and contributed to the fall of Lloyd George's government.
