1922Irish Civil War BeginsPro- and anti-Treaty forces clash at the Four CourtsFighting broke out on 28 June 1922 when the new National Army shelled anti-Treaty IRA forces occupying the Four Courts in Dublin. The conflict split former allies over the Anglo-Irish Treaty and the partition it entailed. It continued into 1923 and claimed the lives of many leading revolutionary figures, including Michael Collins.
