1922Washington Naval Treaty SignedMajor powers agree to limit capital ship tonnageThe United States, Britain, Japan, France, and Italy signed the treaty on 6 February 1922 at the Washington Naval Conference, fixing ratios for battleship and aircraft carrier tonnage among the signatories. It was the first arms-control agreement to limit naval construction. It slowed a costly naval arms race for over a decade.
