1922 – 1995Kingsley Amis (1922-1995)Died 22 October 1995, aged 73Kingsley Amis was a British novelist and poet best known for his comic novel Lucky Jim, a landmark of postwar English fiction. He wrote more than twenty novels and won the Booker Prize in 1986 for The Old Devils. His son Martin Amis also became a prominent novelist.
1922Treaty of Rapallo SignedGermany and Soviet Russia restore diplomatic relationsGermany and Soviet Russia signed the Treaty of Rapallo on 16 April 1922, renouncing territorial and financial claims against each other and normalizing diplomatic relations. Both states were isolated after the First World War, and the treaty included secret military cooperation clauses. It alarmed the Western Allies, who had excluded Soviet Russia from the Genoa Conference then underway.
