• 1921 Washington Naval Conference opens Major powers meet to limit naval armaments Representatives of the United States, Britain, Japan, France, and other powers convened in Washington to negotiate limits on naval armaments and Pacific security arrangements. The talks led to the Five-Power Treaty and other agreements signed the following February. It was the first major international disarmament conference of the twentieth century.
