1921Parliament of Northern Ireland openedKing George V opens the new devolved parliament in BelfastKing George V formally opened the Parliament of Northern Ireland in Belfast, established under the Government of Ireland Act 1920. His speech appealed for reconciliation between Irish factions and helped pave the way toward truce talks in the wider War of Independence. The parliament governed Northern Ireland for the following half-century.
