1920Gandhi Launches Non-Cooperation MovementMass campaign of civil disobedience begins against British ruleMahatma Gandhi launched the non-cooperation movement, urging Indians to boycott British goods, schools, courts, and institutions in a campaign of nonviolent resistance to colonial rule. The Indian National Congress formally endorsed the movement at its Calcutta session in September. It marked the first mass mobilization of Indians in the independence struggle.
