1887 – 1920Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887-1920)Died 26 April 1920, aged 32Self-taught Indian mathematician who made extraordinary contributions to number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions despite having almost no formal training. His collaboration with G. H. Hardy at Cambridge produced results still studied today. He died of illness shortly after returning to India.
