1842 – 1919Lord Rayleigh (1842-1919)Died 30 June 1919, aged 76John William Strutt, third Baron Rayleigh, was a British physicist who co-discovered the element argon and won the 1904 Nobel Prize in Physics. His research also explained why the sky is blue, through what is now known as Rayleigh scattering.
