1893 – 1918Wilfred Owen (1893-1918)Died 4 November 1918, aged 25English war poet Wilfred Owen was killed in action crossing the Sambre-Oise Canal in France, exactly one week before the Armistice ended World War I. His poems, including Dulce et Decorum Est and Anthem for Doomed Youth, portrayed the horror of trench warfare with unflinching realism. Most of his work was published posthumously and became central to the canon of war literature.
