1868 – 1918Nicholas II of Russia (1868-1918)Died 17 July 1918, aged 50Nicholas II, the last Emperor of Russia, was executed along with his family by Bolshevik forces in Yekaterinburg following his abdication in 1917. His reign was marked by military defeats, the 1905 Revolution, and growing unrest that culminated in the fall of the monarchy. He was later canonized as a passion bearer by the Russian Orthodox Church.
1918Execution of the Romanov familyBolsheviks kill the last Russian imperial family in YekaterinburgFormer Tsar Nicholas II, his wife Alexandra, and their five children were shot by Bolshevik guards in the basement of the Ipatiev House in Yekaterinburg. The killings were ordered amid fears that advancing anti-Bolshevik forces might rescue the family. The event marked the definitive end of three centuries of Romanov rule in Russia.
