1862 – 1918Gustav Klimt (1862-1918)Died 6 February 1918, aged 55Austrian Symbolist painter Gustav Klimt, best known for gold-leaf works such as The Kiss, died in Vienna after suffering a stroke and contracting pneumonia during the influenza pandemic. He was a founding member of the Vienna Secession movement. His death came just months before his protege Egon Schiele also died of influenza.

It was the largest single expansion of the UK electorate in history. Full equal suffrage for women would not arrive until 1928.
