1913Gandhi Leads the Great March in South AfricaSatyagraha campaign against Indian indentured-labour lawsMohandas Gandhi led thousands of Indian miners and labourers on a march from Newcastle to the Transvaal in protest against discriminatory laws, including a tax on former indentured labourers. Gandhi and many marchers were arrested, drawing international attention to the campaign. The protests contributed to South Africa's 1914 Indian Relief Act.
