1822 – 1913Harriet Tubman (1822-1913)Died 10 March 1913, aged around 91Tubman escaped slavery in Maryland and made repeated trips south on the Underground Railroad to guide other enslaved people to freedom. During the Civil War she served the Union Army as a scout and nurse, and later became a leading voice for women's suffrage. She died in Auburn, New York, where she had lived for decades.
