1912Carpathia arrivesSurvivors rescued from lifeboats — 4:00 AMThe RMS Carpathia arrived at the scene at 4:00 AM, 1 hour and 40 minutes after the Titanic sank. She rescued 710 survivors from the lifeboats over the next four hours before sailing to New York.
1912Carpathia picks up distress signalSS Carpathia turns and races to help — 12:25 AMThe RMS Carpathia received the Titanic's CQD distress call at 12:25 AM and immediately turned around, pushing her engines beyond their limits to reach the stricken liner 58 miles away.
1912First lifeboat launchedLifeboat 7 leaves with only 28 people — 12:45 AMThe first lifeboat, Lifeboat 7, was launched at 12:45 AM carrying only 28 people — less than half its capacity of 65. Many passengers refused to believe the ship was sinking and declined to board. Distress rockets were fired.
