1911Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company foundedThe Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company (CTR) is incorporated on 16 June 1911 in Endicott, New York — a merger of four companies including the Tabulating Machine Company (founded by Herman Hollerith, inventor of the punch card tabulating machine used in the 1890 US Census) and the International Time Recording Company. CTR manufactures tabulating machines, time recorders, meat slicers and cheese slicers. It employs 1,300 people. Nobody at the founding could imagine it becoming the world's dominant computing company.
