Henry, was celebrated for short stories marked by wit, wordplay and twist endings such as "The Gift of the Magi" and "The Ransom of Red Chief." He wrote hundreds of stories during a prolific career centered in New York City. The O. Henry Award for short fiction is named in his honor.
