• 1904 Theodore Roosevelt Elected President Landslide re-election as U.S. president Theodore Roosevelt won a full term as President of the United States in a landslide over Democrat Alton B. Parker, having previously assumed office after McKinley's assassination. The victory affirmed Roosevelt's progressive domestic agenda and assertive foreign policy. He went on to expand the Panama Canal project and articulate the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine.
