• 1899 – 1902 The Philippine-American War The forgotten war Filipino forces who had fought Spain for independence find the islands handed to the United States instead, and fight on. The war formally ends in 1902 with American victory, though resistance in the Moro south continues for another decade. Estimates of Filipino civilian deaths from violence, famine and disease run into the hundreds of thousands. American conduct, including the reconcentration of civilians and the water cure, produces Senate hearings and the founding of the Anti-Imperialist League.
