1834 – 1900Gottlieb Daimler (1834-1900)Died 6 March 1900, aged 65A German engineer and industrial designer, Daimler pioneered the high-speed petrol engine and co-founded Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft. His engines powered some of the earliest automobiles, motorcycles, and boats. The Mercedes and Daimler-Benz marques trace their lineage to his work.
