1897Greco-Turkish War of 1897Thirty-day conflict over Crete and the Ottoman-Greek borderGreece and the Ottoman Empire fought a brief war triggered by unrest in Crete and Greek nationalist agitation. Ottoman forces won a decisive military victory in Thessaly within weeks, though European powers limited Ottoman territorial gains in the settlement. The Treaty of Constantinople, signed 4 December 1897, ended the war and granted Crete autonomy.
