After the war he was imprisoned for two years before being released without trial, and he spent his final decades writing and speaking in defense of the Confederate cause.
1812 – 1889Robert Browning (1812-1889)Died 12 December 1889, aged 77Browning was one of the leading poets of the Victorian era, known for his mastery of the dramatic monologue in works such as "My Last Duchess" and "The Ring and the Book." He died in Venice on the day his final collection, Asolando, was published in London.
