1887Sadi Carnot elected President of FranceSucceeds Jules Grévy after resignation scandalSadi Carnot is elected President of France by the National Assembly following the resignation of Jules Grévy, who stepped down after a scandal involving his son-in-law selling Legion of Honour decorations. Carnot's election ends months of political turmoil known as the Wilson affair. He serves as president until his assassination in 1894.
